Breed Information

 

The Shiba is a small, sturdy breed, ranging in size from 13  1/2 to 16 1/2 inches at the shoulder and weighing from 15 to 25 pounds, with a life span of 12 to l6 years.  They usually shed their short, dense, thick double coats once a year. Grooming is very easy, an occasional bath and brushing with a slicker brush keeps them in excellent condition

The Shiba is a smart, sturdy, strong willed, independent dog. They are good with children and adults. They are a very clean, quiet dog that loves to play with toys. They must be kept either on a leash or in a fenced enclosure because they love to run if loose. They can be litter box trained like a cat which is an excellent idea for apartment living. They do love the outdoors and enjoy nature walks.
